Modding a Evoluent Vertical 4 with Plasti Dip Spray (black)

How to dramaticly improve Evoluent Vertical 4 with Plasti Dip Spray

bought a 90 dollar Evoluent Vertical 4 - 3 days ago.
I like the form, but it has the worst paint on it I have ever seen on a mouse – very sweat inducing and slippery, very on the finger buttons, extremely on the thumb rest.

That makes picking it up five times as difficult and exhausting as any other regular mouse.

i do not recommend to do this with a new mouse (like i did) since you will (most likely) void your warranty, but this is also a great way to beef up those old optical's we still like to use sometimes.
and they are much easier to disassemble.

i did NOT sand it down (only have 400 and i would not want to use less then 800).
but if you would want to, use a 400-600 paper for getting rid of all the paint or 800+ and just scuff it to provide better surface binding.

only cleaned it with a windscreen cleaning foam (after sanding, if you sand).

IF it should peel off i should be able to pull it off in one piece and just redo it.

sorry for the poor picture quality, its not that good of a camera and I am the worlds worst photographer, have not been able to take one clear picture in my life yet.

all pics are scaled down to 30% from original to save some space.

and forgot to make pics will taking it apart, it was more difficult then a dell latitude laptop.
and annoyed me.

the first coat i made quite thick, till i could not see the original paint at all.

then waited 20 minutes between the next coats.
on the spray can it says 5-10 minutes, but its a bit cold outside.
now i have to wait for an hour to let it set.

you really should use this stuff outside, while spraying it really smells quite intense.
also, wear a face mask (i did).
gloves are not that important, it will peel of skin with a bit of rubbing - small patches that is.

if you want to cover your whole arm in this spray-on rubber do it on your own risk - and don't you DARE to sue the manufacturer of the spray afterwards!

first up, the Vertical 4 plugged in at 3 days old.
on a SteelSeries 9HD pad for size comparison.

without flash so you can see how bright those LEDs are (7 of them!).
i unplugg them when putting it back together.
(don’t do this – it will cause the laser to jerk around – tape over them with electrical tape)

i think i leave it at 3 coats.
should be enough for a mouse and for grip.

all left to do is wait till its try and putting everything back where it was and hope it still works.

EDIT:

MISSION COMPLETE!

VICTORY!
super grippy all around!
a toddler could lift that with two fingers!

one more point:
once the mousefeet are removed they become pretty much unusable.
just putting on things like FightTapes (Revoltec) to regain low friction on the mosepad will not quite work.

reason is the laser.
it will only work properly if it is at the excat distance over the surface.
only solution short of somehow getting original replacement mousefeet is to sand down the ridges in which the feet are placed and then use the FightTapes to regain propper friction and laser distance to the surface.

im pretty sure that if the warranty was not void before, it is now after sanding flat the bottom of the mouse.

but short of sending the mouse back and waiting for a version 5 of this which might have fixxed the issue of the slippery surfaces this was the only way to make this mouse worth its money.

Best regards.

i run both now with the evoluent drivers installed.

basicly everything but FPS (inc urt) with the vertical.
i can play fine with it, but rapid single fire completly screws the aim since it moves the mouse.
and the additional teflon mouse skates on the G500 makes it just better in urban terror.

BUT:

it shows now that 3 coats without sanding is now enough.
i whore through it on the chrome part.
ill redo it propperly soon.
completly sanding it and using 6+ welldried coats.
